Statement to voters

Julia Buckley has been an active and hard working Town Councillor on Bridgnorth Council since 2017.

Full statement

In her first year on the Council she launched the Bridgnorth Art Trail (a sponsored walking trail featuring 13 local artists on locomotive statues which attracted over 5,000 additional tourists to the town). She also co-led the "Prevent Pointless Plastic" initiative which worked with over 100 shops to reduce their single use plastic in the town. Julia is a regular volunteer at Bridgnorth Food Bank, a school Governor at St. Leonard's Primary School and helped to coordinate the Covid-19 Mutual Aid group to support isolated elderly residents during the pandemic. Julia has campaigned tirelessly to protect our Maternity Unit, Minor Injury unit and our Community Hospital here in Bridgnorth. She is also a passionate supporter of young people's mental health and led a 6 month campaign to reverse the Conservative Council cuts to the Bridgnorth Youth Club on Innage Lane. This culminated in a crowdfund appeal to raise over £12,000 to enable the youth provision to continue in 2021-2022. Julia also set up a new community group called "Bridgnorth Litter Pickers" which now co-ordinates over 75 volunteers in their efforts to spruce up our town and keep it looking lovely for residents and visitors alike. Julia has been a strong advocate for our residents over the last 4 years. "It's about time we had a strong voice on Shropshire Council - speaking up for Bridgnorth and securing our services, funding and better decisions".

Julia works part time in local government and has a family with 2 children and a small dog called Flapjack
