Statement to voters

Born and bred in Sutton Coldfield, Jenny is an ardent local campaigner and activist, a Chartered Accountant and business consultant, and mum to three boys whom she adores.

Full statement

She is deeply proud of the cultural heritage of the region; its strong associations with the Industrial revolution, its canals and railways, its continuous strengths in the automotive sector, its notable universities, its position in the heart of England and its vibrant and diverse communities.

Jenny stood as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Sutton Coldfield in the 2017 and 2019 General Elections, as well as being a candidate for the European Parliament in 2019. Outside of politics, she is actively involved in her local community. She led a campaign to save her local library and has since set up a successful charity (FOLIO Sutton Coldfield) which offers an inspirational and engaging programme of educational events in or connected with the library. She is also Governor at a local infant school, on the committee of the support group for Sutton Park and was involved in the local community response to Coronavirus.

Jenny says, “Right now, we are living through extraordinary times; yet there are examples all over our region of neighbours and communities supporting each other. I want to harness that community spirit in my vision for a brighter future for our region - one where everyone has the opportunity to make the most of their lives and where we work together to make the West Midlands a better place for all. I am passionate about supporting the growth of our region and building a thriving economy and vibrant community.

As candidate for Mayor, I want to listen to people - understand their circumstances, their needs and their hopes – and be their voice to create a greener, fairer and kinder West Midlands we can all be proud of.

Professionally, I am Chartered Accountant and business consultant, having worked with a wide range of private and public sector entities over my 25-year career. A significant part of my work has been focused on tackling fraud and corruption, with honesty, integrity and fairness being core values for me.

The immediate priority for our region must be to safely navigate the current crisis, ensuring that people and businesses get the support they urgently need. Far too many people see their livelihoods at risk and remain unsupported by the governments measures, particularly the self-employed and those in the live events sector, as well as hospitality. As we look to the future, I am optimistic that our region can play a pivotal role in growing a green economy and I look forward to builder a fairer and kinder community across the West Midlands, where everyone is valued and given the opportunity to make the most of their lives.”
