Statement to voters

Kevin is one of the three Conservative candidates for the Laindon Park ward in the 2024 Basildon Borough Council elections.

Full statement

Kevin both lives and works in Laindon, and believes that by being a resident of the ward he seeks to represent, he will both see and experience the results of his work within the ward on a daily basis, giving him a strong incentive to make sure the decisions that are made for Laindon at the Council are the right ones.

When first elected in 2021, Kevin was a vocal supporter for the retention and refurbishment of Laindon Community Centre, and successfully pushed for millions in investment to bring the Community Centre back to being one of the premier community hubs for the entire borough.

Kevin prides himself on always being available for always being available for residents, conducting surgeries, home visits, and maintaining a visible presence on social media. He is a local volunteer, supporter of community groups and fights for local causes.

Key issues;

Laindon Shopping Centre We all know the saga of the development of Laindon Shopping Centre. Since the financial collapse of the previous owner, Laindon Conservative councillors have pushed the new owners to get on and finish the job. Developers have now confirmed their groundworks are underway, and the pledge to deliver 15 new shops and improved supermarket will go ahead. We'll hold them to that.

Improve Grass Cutting and Hedge Trimming Services Laindon Conservative councillors have pushed to see sustainable improvements to the services that keep our neighbourhoods looking neat and tidy. More frequent grass cutting is already scheduled for this year, with further improvements on the way, keeping Laindon a pleasant place to live, work and learn.

Replace the fly-away recycling bags When it became clear the blue and white recycling bags weren't working out, Laindon Conservatives listened to residents concerns and fed them back to the Council leadership. The bags are now for the scrap heap and better alternatives will be sought that work for everyone.

Responsible Spending While councils up and down the country go broke, hitting residents with astronomical Council Tax rises, we'll make the tough decisions to keep our services running while delivering not raiding your pockets in the process. Through reckless spending promises, councils run by other parties have seen Council tax hikes of 10% in 2024. Let's not add our town to that list.

Tackling Anti-social Behaviour Tackling drug use and intimidating behaviour, we want more police across our area, and will deploy Community Wardens in our public spaces, to reassure residents.

Getting Essex To Fix The Roads Kevin will work collaboratively with Essex Highways to get REAL improvements to our roads, not just patchwork repairs.
