Statement to voters

I grew up on a large housing estate during the Thatcher era, a time marked by significant political and social instability, as well as economic decline.

Full statement

This period highlighted a stark contrast: while some areas thrived, many communities were left neglected and broken. The last Conservative government fostered an unequal society, and today, under the current Conservative administration, our society has become even more unequal, unhealthy, poorer, and unsafe. In 2014, motivated by the struggles I saw around me, I entered local politics under yet another Conservative government. Becoming a politician wasn’t my lifelong ambition, but I could no longer stand by as my neighbours struggled to make ends meet, young people were drawn into crime, unemployment rose, and essential services like the NHS and Social Care faced severe cuts. Rising living costs and growing inequality spurred me into action. It's evident that we need change. Throughout my life, I have stood up for fairness and have a proven track record of getting things done. As a councillor and cabinet lead for health and wellbeing, I’ve tackled these challenges head-on, fighting to improve services and support for residents. From housing to climate change, I’ve listened to residents’ concerns and am committed to addressing them. Many people in South West Wiltshire don’t feel better off after fourteen years of Conservative rule. With Labour, we have a real chance to transform our community: revitalizing our high streets, addressing antisocial behaviour, and investing in essential health services and our environment. Coming from a military family, I understand the importance of security and the sacrifices made by those who serve our country. As your representative, I will be a strong voice for our community’s military personnel, advocating for the support and resources they deserve. If elected, I will be accessible and accountable to residents, committed to working alongside community groups, businesses, and charities to shape our area for the better. With your support, we can ensure that South West Wiltshire thrives under a progressive Labour government with a dedicated Labour MP. Only the Labour Party can beat the Tories in South West Wiltshire and bring about the transformation we desperately need.
