Statement to voters

Dan grew up in Backwell, a Somerset village, and knows Bath and the surrounding area well.

Full statement

His mother and grandparents all worked in the NHS, and he has inherited their firm belief in the importance of strong public services.

Dan works in consulting, with a focus on community engagement – a role that involves helping those who are often shut out of the national planning process have their voices heard. Now he wants to help make your voice heard, building the relationship between Bath and Westminster so that we can work together to solve local problems.

In his spare time, Dan enjoys cycling. He is a qualified football referee, which allows him to travel the area and visit its community sports clubs.

Dan’s vision for Bath “Bath is a brilliant city with a great sense of community. People look out for each other here. But, like everywhere else in the UK, Bath has suffered under 14 years of chaotic Conservative government.

Our beloved RUH is facing the biggest challenges of its lifetime; air quality needs improving; local schools are desperately under-resourced; nursery spaces and dentist appointments are increasingly hard to get; highstreets have vacant units where independent businesses are struggling; and the cost-of-living crisis means people are increasingly concerned about their and their family’s future.

I became politically active after the Conservatives won a majority in the 2015 general election. I and many around me were bearing the brunt of cuts, and I could see people’s living standards and opportunities diminishing year-on-year, particularly for the younger generation. I’ve never been one to sit on the sidelines, so I started campaigning with the Labour Party. Now I want to represent Bath so I can stick up for interests of the residents here.”

A better future under Labour We are entitled to so much more this Conservative government has given us.

If elected, Dan will be ambitious for Bath – a strong, energetic voice on the issues that matter to you

He will work hard to ensure a focus on:

- Genuinely affordable housing – so local people can stay in the city where they grew up

- A real Living Wage and strong employment rights – so Bath no longer has so many low-wage, insecure jobs

- An end to NHS backlogs, with more GP, dentist, and mental healthcare appointments

- A reduction in energy bills – helping Bath homeowners and renters alike save up to £1,400 a year through Labour’s commitment to deliver cheaper, greener energy and retrofit properties

- A local public transport system that works for residents and promoting active travel Support for Bath’s arts and creative industries, with a proper appreciation of their importance to our economy and our society

Vote for change, vote Labour on 4 July 2024.
