Statement to voters

I’m Liz Bell and I am fed up with the brutality of austerity that sees so many people in Britain relying on food-banks while the country’s billionaires get richer, with a government that seems to be doing its best to destroy the NHS, with cuts in public services, with privatisation aimed at making the rich richer and the poor poorer, with big polluters destroying our environment, and with the lies of the Tory elite who pretend it’s all in our best interests.

Full statement

The Conservative slogan is “Britain deserves better.” Yes, better than the nine years of Tory rule that has brought this country to its knees.

That’s why I have recently joined the Labour Party and am standing to be your MP. The country is in crisis but the good news is that it is not too late. I support Labour’s ambitious election campaign - the most ambitious and radical our country has ever seen. If you want to live in a society that works for everybody and not just the billionaires, this election is your chance to vote for it.

We, the Labour Party, put our faith in the British people’s spirit and commitment to community. Wealth and power should not be in the hands of the many Boris Johnson’s Conservatives, who think they’re born to rule. They’ve slashed taxes for the richest and slashed vital services and support for everyone else.

This election is a once-in-a generation chance to take on the vested interests holding people back and to transform our country, making sure that no community is left behind. To do this we are making these pledges:
• A properly-funded and resourced National Health Service we can all be proud of
• A social care system that gives our older people both dignity and free personal care
• A real living wage of at least £10 an hour, from the age of 16
• Secure homes that families can afford
• Thirty hours’ free childcare for all two to four-year olds
• A good education as a right, not a privilege – and with no tuition fees - where children with special educational needs get the free education they deserve
• Efficient and affordable rail, mail and water services, owned by the public rather than the rich making themselves richer
• A chance for all voters to have a final say on Brexit because in a democracy it’s OK to change your mind
• An end to Tory austerity and Universal Credit
• An end to tax havens, dodgy landlords and bad bosses
• Real action on the climate emergency, with a Green Industrial Revolution at the heart of Labour’s plan to transform Britain

And when Labour wins, the nurse wins, the doctor wins, the pensioner wins, the student wins, the office worker wins, the engineer wins, the child wins. We all win.
