Full statement

As a local resident it’s a great privilege to be selected as the Labour candidate for Darton East Ward. I'm reliable and I care about having a presence and a voice for the residents of Darton East. I want Darton East to be the best place to grow up in, to live in and to grow old in.

My Key priorities for our community I will be available and hold regular surgeries to listen and support residents and businesses. Request improvements to local infrastructure such as roads, schools, transport, health services and the High Street etc. I am an active campaigner for Better Buses for South Yorkshire and have assisted on their campaign stall, gaining signatures for their petitions. I am hoping that buses are brought back into public control following a period of public consultation. I stand up for residents in Darton East who are struggling with bus services by writing to elected officials and Stagecoach buses Ltd with their concerns & complaints.

To work with our young people to encourage them to use Youth Services available locally and in Barnsley Town Centre. Encourage young people of Darton East to participate in decision making and promote Barnsley Youth Council in our area.

I am in contact with BMBC services and the police to maintain safety, sharing information to aid a reduction in crime. I attend Police and Community meetings (PACT). I already report to Barnsley Council on issues concerning housing, state of the roads (potholes), fly tipping and other issues.

I have lived in Darton over twenty seven years and previously worked in the NHS for forty years as a Registered Nurse and later years a Health Visitor. I'm compassionate, can work collaboratively and able to listen. I care passionately about our local community.

I remain a proactive member of the Darton East Ward Alliance. Volunteering weekly with activities at Staincross & Mapplewell Village Hall.

I also volunteer with environmental groups i.e. Voice for Darton & Greenspace. Group. Every 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month I support the Barnsley Council Environmental caretakers in litter picking and tidying up areas of Darton East. I also do lots of independent litter picks and activities that benefit the local community.

I was awarded a Volunteer of the Year award in Oct 2022 at the Darton East Ward Alliance making a difference award event.

I would be grateful to have your vote in the local elections planned on Thursday 2nd May 2024. If you need further information or support with a issue please contact me.
