Statement to voters

I am married to Dave, and mother of 2 adult children.

Full statement

Born and educated in Westcliff, and a local school governor. My former profession was as a Family Lawyer where I practiced locally.

As a Councillor for Blenheim Park Ward, I am Cabinet Member for Children & Learning, my responsibilities include:

Adult & Community Learning
Children’s and Family Social Care
Early Help
Early Years
Schools
YOT, Special Educational Needs & Children with Disabilities

I sit on Development Control (Planning) and I have been involved with Make Southend Sparkle to help clean up and maintain Blenheim Park. The cleanliness and the general appearance of the Town are big concerns of mine and I have referred many matters of litter and rubbish to the relevant Council officers.

I attend People Scrutiny Committee meetings as a Portfolio holder, as well as being Vice Chair of the Audit Committee. Within the Conservative Group, I serve as Secretary, and also liaise with regard to Training and Development.

I like to think I am a 'listening ear' for the local community in Blenheim Park Ward. I try to answer telephone calls and emails promptly, and I attend the monthly ward surgeries with my fellow councillors.

As we progress to improve Southend, within budgetary and resource constraints, I keep the interests of our residents to the forefront of my concerns, listening with compassion, but acting in accordance with the rules and requirements of being a Councillor.

It is an honour and a responsibility for me to serve the Town.
