Statement to voters

I was born and brought up in Northampton where I reside with my family.

Full statement

After leaving school I joined the Youth Training Scheme (YTS) my first job was working for the Chief Executive of Northampton Borough Council. For the next twenty years I worked in the statutory and voluntary sector in social care and health advocated for people living in deprived areas of the town, until I decided to become a Social Worker. I joined the Labour Party and have been Labour Councillor for past 10 years and proud to say I was former Mayor of Northampton. I am proud mother to three wonderful children and crazy about our cats Tibby, Sapphire, and Simba. I am also Foster Carer and care for my son with Acquired Brain Injury.

I am a community activist, passionate about the environment and delivered many campaigns including climate change. I also sit on the board of Trustee at Northampton Domestic Abuse Service, and advocate for women and men facing abuse. I am the founder of Northants Fibromyalgia Support Group. I have volunteered at foodbank, youth club, Women's group, home-start and as family support worker. I have many years of experience campaigning on the doorstep, attended conference as delegate, elected as National Policy Forum representative, was elected as Chair of Northampton Labour Group, elected as BAME and Women's Officer. Housing has been another concern to me ever since Unitary, I have been concerned about rural social isolation, lack of SEN provision, condition of our roads and lack of infrastructure. Few years ago, I worked for Northamptonshire Acre, I visited villages were people told me they felt isolated from everyone and had no local services therefore the information we shared with them really made a difference as many faced rural poverty and felt it was the only time they saw anyone.

I will be an accessible MP, someone people can relate too. I am in touch with local people and listen to their concerns. I want a more inclusive society where everyone is treated equally with respect. I will fight to bring change in rural areas, encourage people not to isolate themselves but instead fight together to receive accessible service, champion climate change, offer better transport service, youth provision, bring back life where they live.
