About David:

My name is David Landall.

I was in the British Army for just over 10 years. I was discharged on medical grounds because of a back injury. I have worked many sales jobs.

I met my wife from Sheffield and settled here some 10 years ago. I lived in John Street but now live in Ridgeway. Since leaving the army, I found it hard to cope on the outside. What I realised is that a lot of people seem to be frightened of standing up for themselves at work. So I became a union representative to help them.

Usdaw Union helped me by giving me all the training needed. I then got a job as an ambulance driver. So I had to change unions and became a GMB member.

Unfortunately, I had a heart attack and cardiac arrest. So I had to leave my job and take early retirement. Been through the disabilities. I hope it gives me insight into helping people with needs. I am still fighting for people who feel they have no voice.

David’s Achievements so far:

• David is very proud to have been central to developing the Stead Street Children’s Play Park and Bluebell Café. This initiative has been a long-awaited boost to children and families in the area and provides a great hub for people to meet.

• David has set up the Veterans’ Hub from the Bluebell Café and is also launching a branch of the Royal British Legion. The central aim of this is to help military families of veterans to receive the care and support they deserve.

• David was active in the recent campaign to prevent the closure of The Grange, a Derbyshire County Council-run residential care home.

If elected, David hopes to continue his good work at District level.
