Ian is 73 and retired in 2009 after 40 years as a senior manager with a major contractor in the construction industry.

He has lived in Maidstone for over 40 years with his wife and has two grown up children and four grandchildren.

He has been a County Councillor for the Maidstone North East Division since 2008 and was also a Borough Councillor for ten years, standing down in 2016. He has previously been a member of the Kent Police Authority where he led on roads policing and was Chairman of the Strategic Committee of Kent’s Road Casualty Reduction Partnership. He was also Chairman of the Vinters Park Residents Association and was a Bearsted Parish Councillor for twelve years.

Ian is a Trustee of the Howard de Walden Centre in Bluett Street, providing community facilities for various local organisations, and is delighted to be supporting the proposed much needed new Community facility in Moncktons Lane on the edge of Ringlestone which will serve a major part of North Ward.

At County Hall he is the Lib Dem Group Spokesperson on the Environment, Highways and Waste Cabinet Committee and, also sits on the Planning Committee, regulation Committee and a number of cross-party groups promoting improvements to the environment

Ian says, "My priorities continue to be fighting to improve the condition of our local roads and footways, particularly in relation to Road safety, Community safety, protecting our countryside and green spaces, improving local community facilities and especially dealing with issues raised by local residents".
