Statement to voters
I am the “local” choice for Berrylands in Kingston Council Elections. What we want is our bins emptied, our street lighting maintained and adequate infrastructure for the local community in our ward. What we do not need is Westminster based party politicians telling us what is best for our area!
Here are my pledges to the residents of Berrylands:
1) Stand Up For Small Businesses in Berrylands
It’s inportant to prevent shopping parades in Berrylands. I will ensure proper investment is made into our local ward rather than supporting chain shops in the town centre. I will oppose any new supermarkets that put small shops at risk.
2) Oppose vanity projects at Kingston Council
Kingston Council is renowned for wasting taxpayers money on vanity projects with little to no benefit to residents. With the books at breaking point this should not be wasted.
3) Protect Green Spaces
I will oppose any overdevelopment or high rise tower blocks in our area.
4) Always independently represent Berrylands
All residents need to be represented equally. Unlike Conservatives, Labour and Lib Dem’s; Oliver and KIRG are able to independently represent any Berrylands resident irrelevant of their party political opinion.
This election is for Kingston Council, not Westminster. I will ensure to represent local residents about local issues and not be delayed by national party political point scoring.
This statement was added by Oliver Marcus Eakin, their team, or by a Democracy Club volunteer, based on information published by the candidate elsewhere.
Hope Not Hate, a London-based charity, canvassed local residents and community organisations to establish the following questions to the candidates in this ward.
How will you improve the social infrastructure on Alpha Road Estate?
"With increased development expected over the coming years I and KIRG pledge to help protect local services on the Alpha Estate while looking to have appropriate infrastructure for the residents who live there. Open space is a very important part of the social infrastructure on the Alpha Estate and I will ensure this is protected and will oppose any unnecessary or unwanted developments that would damage the local community."
How will you ensure there is a council-run and government-funded advice service which will help EU nationals register for settled status? And will you pledge your support for EU nationals to keep their right to vote after 29 March 2019
"Adequate help should be available for EU nationals to register for settled status in London. I will ask the council to ensure this is offered to all the residents living in Kingston and to ensure adequate time is given before the deadline.
"I fully support EU nationals retaining their right to vote in local elections on the basis the European Union will do the same for British nationals living abroad. I will however point out that this is a local election to Kingston council and therefore will have no effect on Brexit whatever other candidates and parties may say to you."
Should 16 years olds have the right to vote? Please elaborate on your answer.
"16 year olds use our local infrastructure just as much as an 18-24 year old would do. Therefore I would fully support votes for 16 year olds in the local election as is currently being done in Scotland."
