Statement to voters

Julia Stephenson is an animal activist, environmentalist and founder of the Julia Stephenson Trust For Animals. She is a Patron of Greek Animal Rescue, and is actively involved in dog rescue, dog rehoming and helps fund neutering projects in Greece and Romania.

Julia was an environmental columnist at the Independent and wrote the weekly Green Goddess column for 4 years.

She has published 3 books. The latest, the green memoir, Letting Go of the Glitz: One Woman’s Struggle to Live the Simple Life in Chelsea detailed her exhaustive efforts to live sustainably in central London, which involved keeping rescue battery hens on the roof, winning planning permission for the first wind turbine and solar panels in Chelsea, composting all her food waste in a wormery and giving up flying in favour of taking trains everywhere.

Julia is the only Leaver in Putney, where she is a pariah to all but her rescue dogs. Nonetheless, she feels it is imperative to nail her colours to the mast as a Brexit candidate – albeit in the highest Remain voting constituency after Gibraltar. She passionately feels that the top-down dogmatic EU project promoting endless industrial development and growth doesn’t fit with the Green vision of a future lived on a more human scale
