Statement to voters

My name is Sam Peters, and I’m the Green Party candidate for Guildford.

Full statement

I was born and grew up in Guildford, and have lived locally almost my entire life, from Boxgrove to Mareschal Road and now Drummond Road.

I have been a Green Party member since my first general election vote in 2010. I voted tactically for the Liberal Democrats only to see the coalition government u-turn on countless promises (especially to students and young people), and help bring in successive Conservative governments who have been a disaster for the UK over the past 14 years.

This time round, voters don’t need to vote tactically *against* the worst option – with the Conservatives set to lose in a landslide, we can finally vote *for* the policies, people and parties we believe in.

As the other parties slide ever closer to the Conservatives, the Green Party has remained a strong voice for the bold, transformative policies we desperately need. We have always been consistent whether on public services or tackling inequality, cutting bills or working for peace in Ukraine, Gaza and worldwide.

I’m thrilled to see soaring Green support around the whole constituency – from lifelong voters for other parties, and across all walks of life. Every bit of support and every vote is hugely appreciated.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I hope to see you on your doorstep, at a local event or out and about in the coming weeks!

More about Sam: Sam is deeply involved in local projects and community work – most notably with Zero Carbon Guildford, where he was a trustee until March and remains a key member of many projects, volunteering his time and effort in various capacities almost every day.

After working at Surrey University for several years, he became an intensive care researcher in 2019 and spent the pandemic working on several covid studies. Last year he switched careers into home energy efficiency.

Sam also founded and runs a Community Library, along with other volunteer work – water testing on the Wey, collecting food for ZERO’s Community Fridge, giving free home energy surveys to help keep homes warm and cut bills, regular local litterpicking, and much more.
