Statement to voters

My name is Ben Burcombe-Filer, and I am the Conservative candidate for Southampton Test in this general election.

Full statement

My journey to this point has always had Southampton Test at its heart. I first came to Southampton Test aged 18 months having been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and written off. My fightback began with the skill help and support of Southampton General, who have been there every step of the way since.

“My whole life, professional and personal, has been about overcoming challenges, in environments where failure simply is not an option. I hope to be able to use those attributes in serving and representing the residents of Southampton Test. Together we can ensure bold action provides a Secure future for the City.”

My main aims if elected as MP would be

1. To ensure the people of Southampton Test feel that their voice is heard and they are represented. With a Labour MP since 1997 and a council on which 70% of the seats are held by Labour there is no check or debate currently. The people deserve an MP who will listen, not just hear, and act accordingly.

2. Focus on the things that really matter to people. Continuing to cut crime and antisocial behaviour, cleaning up our streets, further elevating the pride Southampton communities feel in their city.

3. Ensure the resilience of infrastructure and industry in the city, making sure the port has the capacity to continue to provide quality jobs for residents for years to come by helping to attract further investment. As well as making sure our infrastructure and transport network is future proofed so the people and business’ of Southampton Test can plan with confidence and thrive.

I feel strongly that I have a debt to the people and place of Southampton Test, without them I simply would not be here. Now I want to use my skills and experiences to give back.
