Statement to voters

My name is Fabio Bonfante and I have lived in Waltham Cross for almost all of my life.

Full statement

Whilst I count myself lucky to live here, I am becoming increasingly concerned with many issues facing my town and my borough. Sadly, with the area being a ‘safe zone’ for the Conservatives, as long as I have lived here, Waltham Cross in particular is paid very little attention by any level of local government.

Congestion on Broxbourne’s roads is becoming unmanageable, particularly in Waltham Cross and Cheshunt. It is increasingly difficult to do basic things such as get to the shops or drop children off to school. Sometimes a ten minute journey across the borough can take an hour! We have seen a building boom over the last few years, with the Conservative council approving more and more new large scale developments, but without accompanying improvement to our our roads and transport systems. Our bus network is patchy and infrequent, leaving some of our most vulnerable people unable to move about.

Our rail links into London are vital for our local economy and commuters in Waltham Cross deserve more frequent and better quality services in to and out of London, I want to see our roads and public transport properly planned for, looked after and funded, not neglected.

Whilst it is important that we build affordable and decent homes for our residents, development has to be sustainable and put the needs of locals first, this is something I want to fight hard for. I recently spoke with some of the elderly in Broxbourne, who told me that they remember a time when the Conservatives had an opposition in the council; I and my fellow Broxbourne Liberal Democrats want to be that opposition and an effective voice to oppose Conservative plans when they don’t represent the interests of our residents.

I want to contribute to our area, rather than just complain, which is why I am standing for election as your next borough Councillor in May.

I want to get the very best for our area, making sure your needs and rights are not compromised and at the same time working hard to create opportunity for us all, securing the future of where we all live.

So if you have a problem or an improvement you would like to see locally, please get in touch with me, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
