Statement to voters

I am a mum of two, and I have helped to care for my elderly parents through their ill health.

Full statement

I studied Politics at University and was the first person in my family to go, suffer the debts and succeed as a result of the opportunity!

I served as a Councillor for almost 6 years in Mid Sussex at Parish, Town and District level and a Member of Parliament for a further 4 years in Eastleigh and know what it takes to make a difference in the community. You can find a record of my work in the new section archives on this website. I was very proud to have won twice this seat for our great party. I had a fantastic time doing this job and loved every minute. As my personal circumstances changed during that time, I chose not to restand so a new candidate could carry the mantel forward. Coming home to Mid Sussex is fantastic as it means I can continue to make a difference in front line politics and be there for my daughters more after my divorce.

During my time as a Councillor and as a keen sportswoman I founded the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend, with three races run across East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill, was a member of Haywards Heath Harriers and set up the thriving Haywards Heath Sports Forum. I loved being a Town Councillor and started my time on local councils when I was co-opted onto Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common Parish Council.

I have worked in a variety of fields - in retail, hospitality but mainly media, events and communications. Most notably for the AA, BBC and the Police. I most recently worked in Road Safety alongside the Police and their Partners where I helped reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads. That was a job I truly enjoyed, making a difference in the community and this outcome really matters to me.

I am in politics as I care about people, community and doing what is right, and know this understanding and commitment is really important in modern politics. I do pride myself on speaking my mind and standing up for all those who need assistance.

I am continuing my record of hard work, community action and reaching out to those who feel disconnected from politics.

I love reading, history, creative writing, 80's pop music, pub quizes, gin and tonics , anything fizzy to drink ideally followed by a curry! I am a member of the National Trust and enjoy getting involved with matters across the community large or small. I like volunteering and have been a trustee of a local veterans' charity.
