Full statement
She was born and brought up on Abbeydale Road and now lives in Norfolk Park. Louise made clear in her acceptance speech the people of Sheffield Heeley will always be her number one priority.
Since then, she’s been named by independent House of Commons Library research as the hardest-working of all new MPs for her work standing up for her community.
She’s held the government to account on everything from school cuts and child refugees to fracking and children’s mental health, all the while highlighting the economic decline and misery caused by years of Tory austerity.
Louise led a national campaign to reinstate tax credits for thousands of people who’d had them wrongly stopped and has successfully fought to save NHS services for the south of Sheffield.
Using her experience as a former Special Constable, she’s worked with the local Police force to keep our community safe and to tackle the problem of nuisance off-road motorbikes. In July 2017 Louise was appointed Shadow Policing Minister and has campaigned for the Police to be properly resourced, staffed, and accountable to the public.
Before becoming an MP, Louise served as a shop steward for the Unite union to help bring about change in the workplace. As a proud trade unionist, she’s supported workers facing discrimination, harassment, redundancy and unfair dismissal.
If re-elected, Louise will continue to champion the issues which matter to local people.
