Full statement

Affordable and accessible transport links for people and businesses.

A higher standard of new homes that are energy-efficient and affordable.

Local decision-making for town and city centres.

Dear Neighbour,

On May 2nd, voters across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire have the opportunity to elect their first Mayor. Liberal Democrats believe in change from the grassroots up, not grandstanding from the top down. My priorities include affordable and accessible transport links, a higher standard of new homes, and no decisions should be made without considering the environmental impact. I’m a high street business owner, and former councillor, and I know the challenges facing our towns. We deserve a cleaner, greener, safer region, and I’ll ensure ground up collaboration across the region, not top down dictation.

Decisions made with the environment in mind:

Day one declaration of a climate emergency

Launch of a climate and sustainability forum, working grassroots up to ensure that no one is left behind as we work towards net zero

Budget for active travel to reduce short car journeys.

Affordable and accessible transport:

Improved bus services, connecting our towns, cities and rural areas

Integrated and simplified ticketing with a fare cap, ensuring public transport is affordable for all

Work with transport providers to ensure that public transport is as accessible as possible for everyone.

A higher standard of new homes:

Affordable and social housing to be built to high standards to meet net zero goals, while keeping energy costs down

Green retrofitting of existing homes, using local installers, keeping revenues generated within the local economy
