Statement to voters
Our country is in desperate need of change.
Full statement
The NHS is in crisis, families are struggling with the cost of living and sewage is being dumped in our rivers and seas. I'm campaigning to deliver change for our communities and our country.
I am a long-term resident of Lewes constituency. I’ve lived here for 20 years, initially in Lewes where I was a councillor for Malling and the town centre, and more recently I call the town of Newhaven home. I am a councillor at Town, District and County levels in Newhaven and live here with my partner and two young children. I am deeply committed to our community; to ensuring there is prosperity for all, a decent education for our children, and our green spaces, rivers and seas are protected. Let me share my track record:
1. I've been a Councillor in Lewes constituency since 2007: Over the years, I’ve immersed myself in our community, understanding its challenges and aspirations first-hand.
2. I've been Leader of Lewes District Council (2020 and 2022): tackling the cost of living crisis, ensuring significant funding for play area improvements, gaining funding for the regeneration of Newhaven, supporting local businesses, and supporting biodiversity and our green spaces leading to tangible improvements in people’s lives.
3. I was a champion of the People’s Vote: As Campaign Director of the European Movement, I spearheaded the People’s Vote campaign alongside other pro-European organisations.
4. I'm an education advocate: I fight passionately for fully funded pupil premiums and against the Government’s two-child benefits cap.
Lewes Constituency is a beautiful and vibrant place – from our coastal towns of Seaford and Newhaven, Polegate and Willingdon, our historic coastline and county Town of Lewes and our wonderful villages. And these are hugely exciting times for our constituency.
We are one of the top ten target seats in the country for the Liberal Democrats. The Conservatives have a very slim majority of less than 2,500 votes over the Liberal Democrats here. Polls are showing the Liberal Democrats can win here. That means every vote matters. With your help, I can win. And, together, we can continue building a better future for our community.
