Deirdre was a front-bench member of the SNP group in Westminster covering relations with the devolved administrations, and liaison with the Scottish Government and Scottish Parliament.

She sits on the Public Accounts Committee which is responsible for examining the value for money of public spending, holding the UK Government and Civil Servants to account for the way our money gets spent.
Before winning her seat in the 2015 election, Deidre was a councillor for the Leith Walk ward on Edinburgh Council and Depute Lord Provost of Edinburgh. She was born in Western Australia, grew up in Perth and studied for her BA in English from John Curtin University before studying acting at the WA Academy of Performing Arts. She lives in Edinburgh with Dougie and her two daughters.
