Statement to voters
As your borough councillor, I’ve worked hard to protect Leckhampton’s precious green spaces and - where development does take place - to make sure it’s environmentally-friendly and delivers decent numbers of affordable homes.
Full statement
I’ve taken up many issues for residents - from new zebra crossings to the detail of planning applications, from chasing for bins to be emptied to constantly nagging the Conservative-run county council to repair our often woeful roads and pavements.
I’ve actively supported community groups and clubs everywhere from Burrow’s Field to the scout hut to the green at Southcourt Drive.
At borough level, I’ve delivered an air quality action plan, prioritising schools. And I recently persuaded the council to declare a nature emergency, meaning tougher targets for restoring nature. Some parties call themselves green. Cheltenham Lib Dems actually deliver on the environment.
But I wouldn’t mind some help! So I’m delighted Julia Chandler is standing with me in Leckhampton’s double-header election this May.
I’ve known Julia for years. She lives locally and as a former Cheltenham midwife and health campaigner, she’ll be an expert voice on the council and a real champion for embattled local health services.
You’ll be voting for Gloucestershire’s Police & Crime Commissioner in May too. Former Superintendent Martin Surl is our Lib Dem candidate. An outstanding independent Police & Crime Commissioner before 2021, I know he’ll always put effective policing before politics.
We all have a record of action for local people. We keep in touch all year round. And we’d really value your support in May.
Thank you
