Statement to voters

Ed Rolison has lived in Cassington and Witney since moving to the area a few years ago.

Full statement

Having lived in both in rural and city areas in his life the move to this area has developed his interest in the housing and transport issues of the area. What started as personal interest Ed now wishes to use to represent those living locally. This area is unusual as it is rural yet also acts as a suburb to Oxford. In his role as an IT engineer for an Oxford based finance firm he enjoys tackling and resolving problems. His love of computing and technology isn’t often seen as compatible with environmental concerns both nationally and locally. However he believes that in joining the Green Party they combine these interests in promoting a sustainable development both is business and home life, and creating a new way of living. He has decided to stand for the position of District Councillor for the Green Party and integrate the values of the party with the local issues such as multiple housing developments, change of use for buildings and large scale changes to the area through development. Having lived in the Tewkesbury area for a number of years he has had experience of the increase in flooding we are encountering and how this impacts daily living, and businesses in those areas. In living in this area he sees how the large scale developments will bring fundamental changes to how we live and work in the area. Any local developments should not be to the detriment of the existing business, homes, and natural environment. Increased local housing is an obvious pressing need, and in moving to this area Ed has seen that what is counted as affordable housing in other parts of the country is not so here.

Ed cycles for work and pleasure, and also enjoys our local countryside paths during daily dog walks too. He supports the need for improved local public transport and a safe cycling network. He would work to ensure that such things were encouraged, without losing sight of necessary car use and access.
