Full statement

This is a great part of the Town to live in. We are a real community and yet politicians take our neighbourhood for granted. I know how important local facilities are to local people and so much has been given up in recent years, without our politicians putting up a fight on our behalf. We have had to stand up for ourselves when they are supposed to stand up for us. We have lost our public toilets, our open spaces are not what they were, and now they are trying to take our children’s adventure playgrounds away. Our own councillors made no objection to these things. We are led to believe there is no money and yet there seems to be plenty for councils to splash around for things that we don’t have any say about until it is too late - like the superfast broadband that most of us don’t need and can’t afford anyway; like the Kingsgate carpark bought on a whim that now needs loads of work doing to it, and that we will have to pay over the odds to use. It has been reported today that £1 million plus has recently been given over to developing council land at Metcalf way, and we aren’t even given a clue what it is for. This is our money, and it is not good enough. If you elect me, I will represent your interests – not other shadowy interests that nobody is allowed to know anything about until it is too late. I have always stood up for ordinary people and I always will.
