It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election. The current MP is Rachel Reeves of the Labour Party — it has been a Labour seat since 1945. She is currently the Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office.
