Ahmad Khan was expelled by the party on 11 April 2022 after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy in 2008. On 14 April 2022, Khan announced he would be resigning as an MP, triggering a by-election. His resignation became effective on 3 May 2022, when he was appointed Steward of the Chiltern Hundreds.
