Statement to voters
I am standing to give the people of Yardley a voice to make Britain a fairer country for everyone. In Yardley, 35% of children live in poverty; and in Birmingham, homelessness is a growing problem, with the number of rough sleepers swelling from an average of just six a night before the collation government to more than fifty-five today.
I would set clear targets for ending child poverty and call for government funding to improve Early Years support for young people and their families. I would adopt a ‘Housing First’ approach to get the homeless permanent accommodation as soon as possible and then provide services they need such as treatment for substance abuse and mental health issues.
I am standing to protect our environment from the catastrophic effects of runaway Climate Change by targeting to reduce our net emissions to zero by 2030 by switching to renewable energy, encouraging the use of electricity for heating and cooking, and investing in energy efficiency.
I am standing to make sure that the people have a final say on the outcome of Brexit, This is important for both Leave and Remain voters as any deal has to draw a line in the sand under this issue and we have to have the opportunity to defend the best deal that is currently on the table – our membership of the European Union.
Above all, I am standing for a fairer, more sustainable society. This election vote to help make that vision a reality.
