I’ve lived in Wallingford for over 20 years, with my wife raising 3 children here.
Full statement
Taught about climate change in the mid–1990s, I’ve worked in both professional and voluntary capacities on sustainability and human rights since 2003. I have significant senior corporate experience in companies such as Unilever and PepsiCo. Today I am a director of a community interest company supporting organisational leaders to build the skills needed by society for the transition we face in the next 40 years. I was a founding member of Sustainable Wallingford from 2003 until 2010, served as a governor of St John’s Primary School from 2008–2021 (including time as Chair & Vice-Chair) and as a director of the Oxfordshire Primary Education Network Academy Trust. I am a keen cyclist, dog walker and river sailor / swimmer. I hold Masters degrees from the Universities of Bath and Cambridge.
I am passionate about our local community and environment. I’d like to continue my service to Wallingford by working as our representative on SODC to help build an even more prosperous and resilient town. We have much going for us here, given the many of us who serve our town in different capacities. And it seems that more is possible - when we look to other areas who are innovatively thriving even in these increasingly tough times, there are many initiatives that we could adopt or adapt. I believe SODC can play an important part; targeting resources to help more of us, more of the time, more easily, get involved in our community at all levels. Like a healthy ecology, a community really benefits from diverse citizens’ sharing their hopes, and being empowered to work towards them becoming reality. I want to make our democratic processes more open, so that SODC decisions are as participative as possible – encouraging more citizens to actively involve themselves. I will work to build stronger links between the Town and District Councils so that you, the town’s citizens, are served by two bodies working together to support you live your lives richly and fully.
