Statement to voters
Hello! My name is Maria Hume, and I’m hoping to be your local councillor.
Full statement
I am keeping this message simple, as I know very few have the time or inclination to pay too much attention to politics.
My profession is that of a psychological therapist, but have found it necessary to lean into politics, because I see so much of what makes our country amazing, being eroded and undermined. I grew tired of hearing myself complain, and so decided to try to do something about it.
We cannot take our freedoms for granted anymore, and the time has come for us to stand up and be heard. We are proud of our heritage, and of our country. Our country, people and allies, have all done a great deal of good in the world, and it pains me to see that so many are unable to acknowledge the sacrifices they made to keep us free.
I look around me today and see a country full of fantastic people, who have been neglected, ignored or shouted down. I think it’s time to change that. It’s time to wake our sleeping lions, to stand with us, to fight for our freedom and for our culture and heritage. All of us, regardless of race or religion - we are the people of Lincolnshire, and we are the people of the United Kingdom – and our voices will be heard.
At a local level, I want to:
1. Put you first. It matters to me that we listen to, and look after the people of our county first, to make sure your voice is heard and that something is actually done – not just meetings, but real action.
2. Ensure that decision-makers are reminded who pays their salaries – they should be accountable to you.
3. Improve our roads and infrastructure … starting with potholes!
4. Provide 100% opposition to any nuclear waste facilities in our county.
5. Say No to pylons, our countryside must be preserved.
On a national level, Reform UK aims to:
1. Encourage smart immigration, and a NO, to unskilled economic migration.
2. No More Small Boats in the Channel – Reform UK will detain and deport
3. Massively reduce NHS waiting lists, and aim for no waiting lists at all.
4. No income tax if you earn less than £20k per year. Making work pay, and helping people to get out of the benefits trap.
5. Affordable, stable energy bills, and UK energy security.
While this is a very brief summary, I do hope it gives you an idea of what we are about.
