Peter Can Win Here
At the last Canterbury City Council by-election in March 2025, Green Candidate Stuart Heaver scored a whopping 49.5% of the vote. Green Party membership across England and Wales has surged to over 100,000 this year. The Green Party is growing rapidly and people from all backgrounds are voting Green.
Peter Works Hard
Peter worked in public transport for over 30 years in commercial and project management roles, and more recently has worked extensively in community activities. He is a volunteer with the Samaritans, in London and Canterbury, and works tirelessly in all his roles. He would continue to do so for the residents of Wincheap as an effective Green Party opposition on Canterbury City Council.
Peter Has the Experience
Peter is an active committee member of his local Residents’ Association and has previously been a Parish Councillor in the Canterbury district. He is also a Director and Club Secretary of Canterbury City Football Club, who, for the first time in over 20 years, now play back in the City, on the threatened Thanington Recreation Ground.
Clare Turnbull, Green Councillor for Gorrell ward, Whitstable says: “Since becoming a councillor in 2021 I have realised what a difference even one Green voice in the room can make. Peter cares about the area, and his commitment and experience mean he would be an excellent councillor.”
Wincheap resident Catherine says: “I’m going to be voting for Peter — having more Green representatives on the Council can make a real difference for the residents of Wincheap.” Another Wincheap local, Christine, says: “Peter has got my vote this time. I want to see someone speaking up and holding the Labour/Lib Dem Council to account.”
Peter’s Three Priorities
Traffic and Pollution
Peter will fight to ensure that any traffic impacts from developments are minimised, while consulting residents on the introduction of reduced speed zones in the streets of Wincheap, many of which have become ‘rat-runs’ for drivers.
Save Thanington Recreation Ground!
There is currently a proposal to construct a slip road off the A2 which will mean moving the Wincheap Park and Ride. Incredibly, the Draft Local Plan from this Labour/LibDem Council proposes to move it to the Thanington Recreation Ground, which means losing the open space and community football pitches. It will also put the Neighbourhood Resource Centre – the beating heart of Thanington – at severe risk. Peter will oppose this until it is dropped from the Council’s plans.
Housing and Community
Peter welcomes using the industrial estate for new housing, but we need to make sure these are good quality homes. Peter will push for the promised ‘master plan’ for this area to be progressed. He says “We cannot have another piecemeal development. The future plans for the Wincheap Gyratory need to be finalised, and uncertainty removed.” Peter will also work hard to limit the strain of such developments on Wincheap residents and the local infrastructure, and ensure that we learn lessons from other developments in the area.
At the local council election on 13th November, don’t waste your vote on yet more of the same. Vote for Peter for a fresh, powerful voice standing up for our area. With your support, Green Councillor Peter Campbell can win here.
