Statement to voters
ABOUT OUR CITY: Cambridge is changing fast.
Full statement
Money is flooding in, poverty and crime are rising, our infrastructure is falling apart. Paradox? I’m afraid not. The big political parties all want to exploit our city as a source of funds for their national projects. Only I am free to speak out and stop our city from turning into a victim of its own success.
Enough hollow pledges and bickering. I’ll work with all stakeholders on sensible policies we can afford now, to improve our city.
The people around us are the best guarantee of our security and well-being.
So let’s 1 strengthen and empower our communities, 2 encourage volunteering, 3 fix things ourselves when others won’t, 4 improve our public transport, 5 make streets safer for cyclists and vulnerable pedestrians, without penalising cars, 6 improve access to low-cost housing and 7 dental care, 8 oppose the over-development of ourcity..
ABOUT OUR COUNTRY:
In an unstable world racked by wars, natural disasters, technology threatening our jobs, social media that messes with our minds, immigrants knocking at the door, weak leadership and polarising ideologies, let’s strengthen our society and gently correct course to secure our future and the next generations, based on community, education, mutual respect, compromise and a can-do attitude:
- Yes to always putting local people first - meaning YOU
- Yes to educational measures that strengthen society
- Yes to a voluntary national service: NHS, social services
- Yes to reforming university funding & more apprenticeships
- Yes to low-cost housing, job security & perks for keyworkers
- Yes to overcoming isolation and insecurity of older people
- Yes to incentives for industry and innovation in this country
- Yes to less outsourcing, offshoring, middlemen in our economy
- Yes to fair protection of our high streets from e-commerce
