Statement to voters
I've been involved in campaigning since my teens, when I protested against the Criminal Justice Act and for changes to the law to allow people with no fixed address to vote.
In my twenties, while living in the Southside of Glasgow, I got involved in community and heritage charity, the Strathbungo Society, and was the first Chair of the Glasgow Civic Forum. As well as organising community events, we also campaigned on issues as diverse as stopping Network Rail chopping down trees, planning issues around temporary accommodation, and supporting the community during major structural engineering works. As part of the Civic Forum I campaigned against unpopular plans to redevelop George Square.
Since moving to Borgue on the Solway Coast, I have been elected to the Community Council where we have been working on improving rural broadband. Dumfries & Galloway Greens mounted our biggest ever campaign last year against swingeing cuts to evening and weekend bus services. Our campaign saw planned budget cuts reduced by one third and the saving of several key bus services. We are currently campaigning against the closure of day care services for older people at Merse House care home in Kirkcudbright.
As well as being a busy mum of 4 and a smallholder, I currently work as a charity administrator, handling grants for a range of community benefit funds.
