Statement to voters

Hi, I’m Matt Rogan - and I’m proud to be standing here, in Beeston and Holbeck, for the Green Party, to work with and for you, my neighbours, as your local councillor.

Full statement

Myself and the local Green Team here in South Leeds are here for you, year-round, listening to and working with local people for change - as we have been (often behind the scenes) for many years. Together, we have many struggles, but we also have a strong community to be proud of. I live and volunteer locally, working with others on local community projects including litter-picking, helping at community events like Beeston Festival, and engaging with residents at forums and listening events.

I’m also a committed campaigner of many years. I’ve co-led successful campaigns on saving libraries, and recently have spoken up on local public transport, planning battles, and environmental issues in our area. I am a cooperative campaigner - listening, cooperative politics is good! We need to work with one another for our community. As well as keeping myself busy with community action, I am supporting residents with daily issues including crime and anti-social behaviour, planning and licensing, waste and litter, green spaces and trees, highways, and housing.

But - why should you vote for me?

- I’m in the community, working with you. Living here in this community, I see first hand the many struggles we face. Fly tipping, anti-social behaviour, environmental and noise pollution - to name a few. Your issues are my issues, and I want to work with my community to find the answers.

- I have fresh ideas for new solutions. Labour and the Tories are failing us, whether it’s big international issues like Gaza, or serious action to tackle the Cost of Living Crisis. We need fresh approaches to understand and resolve these problems.

- I am a strong, independent voice. Unlike with the big parties, Green councillors are not controlled by our party leaders. I'll be free to make decisions in the best interests of our communities.

A vote for me on 2nd May will really help us to develop our work in this local community. We have long played our part in year-round hands-on work, with others, to make a real difference locally. But with your support, we can build on that, and help nurture an ever-more active presence in our communities.

Many thanks in advance if you can support me this May. Vote Matt Rogan (Green Party) for Beeston and Holbeck on Thursday 2nd May. Thank you!
