Statement to voters

Fesl grew up in Oldham.

Full statement

Like many young people from towns that had seen better days, he left to build a future elsewhere, earning a degree in International Relations through a bursary during his service with the British Army Reserve. That period shaped him — the physical resilience, the discipline, the understanding of what it actually means to serve others.

After the Army, Fesl started his civilian career in stock registry and banking, developing a practical understanding of financial markets before making a deliberate switch to public service. Working for Manchester City Council, he led projects across housing and regeneration that made a real difference to real people. He helped establish some of the first landlord licensing schemes in the country, designed to regulate and prosecute rogue landlords. He used Housing Market Renewal funding to bring substandard homes up to scratch for the most vulnerable residents in the city. He knows how local government works from the inside, and he knows where it too often falls short.

He is currently an entrepreneur running his own small business.

But what defines Fesl is not his career. It is how he shows up when his community needs him. In 2015, when severe floods devastated communities in Cumbria, Fesl travelled north with members of his community to help. They organised Christmas dinner and delivered presents to families who had lost everything. Nobody asked them to go. They just went.

On 22nd May 2017, the Manchester Arena attack changed this city. Fesl helped lead the Muslim community response through the Turn2Love initiative, making clear to anyone who was watching that terrorism finds no shelter in Manchester and that unity is stronger than division. He has carried that same instinct into every cause he has taken up since, from Ukraine to Kashmir to Palestine. It was his commitment to Palestinian human rights that brought him into the Green Party.

Since joining, Fesl co-founded Muslim Greens, and now serves on the National Executive Committee as International Coordinator. In that role he has helped shape the European Green Party's position on Palestine, on artificial intelligence governance, and on an integrated Europe-wide rail network.

He has also served as Chair of Manchester Council's Black Officers Association and as a member of the Greater Manchester Police Independent Advisory Group.

Fesl is a proud husband and father. His daughter loves joining him on hikes and paddleboarding trips. He is a keen traveller and a regular camper.

He is standing for Levenshulme because this ward deserves a councillor who understands what it takes to deliver for people who have been let down by empty pledges and broken promises.

Fesl's priorities for Levenshulme:
• Championing community-led projects and backing local residents groups that are already doing the work
• Cleaning up Levenshulme's streets and back alleys, starting with a proper plan to tackle the litter epidemic
• Tackling the cost of living crisis for the most vulnerable families in the ward
• Addressing the shortage of affordable housing and holding landlords to account on standards and extortionate rents

Fesl is a safe, grounded, and experienced candidate who will take the concerns of Levenshulme residents directly into the council chamber.
