Statement to voters

Hi.

Full statement

I’m Paul Turner I’m retired. I was self employed for almost 40 years running my own businesses along with Cherry and had a successful business selling window blinds. I’m married to my wonderful wife Cherry with 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. You may already know me as a Berkeley town councillor for over 2 years. During that time i was involved as follows. 1. I made the council aware of the gross lack of maintainance of the pavilion at canon park. I got agreement to arrange quotes and as a result project managed the entire project to repair all areas of the outside of the pavilion. 2. As a result of a flood in the pavilion I obtained the quotes and project managed the renovation and upgrading of the interior or the pavilion. 3. The approach to the scout hut in Parkview was dangerous and numerous people had tried to get this repaired. I took this on and by negotiating with SDC got agreement to resurface the entrance path after 10 years of neglect. 4. Parking is an issue in Berkeley. I was designated by council to improve the parking availability. Lengthy negotiations with SDC culminated in an agreed plan for improved parking in the town. 5. The town gates was an improvement I introduced to council and got agreement. 6. The town hall had been neglected externally for many years, I gained councils agreement to obtain quotes for roof repairs and facia repairs. I also got council to agree the budget for these works that are now taking place. 7. I arranged the Queens Platinum jubilee celebrations on Canon park. 8. I sat on the planning and finance committee, Berkeley cemetery committee, town improvement committee and the staffing committee. 9. On the cemetery committee I was appointed liaison officer to care for the resident in the lodge where I have maintained and improved the building to the delight of the resident. 10. I was responsible for making the council aware of the dangers of the 60mph limit on the bypass, as a result support was gained from our county councillor Brian Tipper and a successful TRO application means a 40mph limit is scheduled to be implemented this summer. As a district councillor I would be able to support the towns residents and town council pro actively in the interests of all in Berkeley.
