Statement to voters
My name is John Francis Gilling, and I will be standing as an independent candidate for the Orchard Park Ward on 7th May.
Full statement
Why Independent?
Because I am fed up with the restrictions that come with party politics. The only line I would want to tow is that of the people who might vote for me.
I feel that the existing councillors in Orchard Park have been in for far too long and have become complacent. In fact I am unsure if any of them actually live in the area.
I feel that in General, Party Politics has become full of recycled MP'S and Councillors that flit from one Political Party to the next, which doesn't inspire me to feel that they will stand by their promises or their principles.
Why Orchard Park
Because I have lived in this area for the last 20 years, and I care about my community, the area, and the people.
I am fed up with seeing this area neglected and the negative press it gets from the media etc.
What can I do if I get elected
- Unlike candidates of the past I will not make false promises that I have no control over of delivering.
-Therefore all I will promise you is that I will put 💯 per cent effort into being a voice for you in the local council. I will listen to you, I will speak up for you, and I will represent the people of Orchard Park Ward to the Best of my ability.
Because I live in the area I will be visual, recognised, and you will know who I am.
I will not be hiding away in a house elsewhere in the City if the going gets tough.
Do I think I have a chance of being elected.
If I didn't feel I had a chance I wouldn't waste my, or yours, time by standing as a candidate.
I stood in the last local elections 2 years ago as an independent, and I came 3rd with 169 votes, Labour won with 999 votes. But the most interesting stat for me is that out of about 10,000 eligible voters less than 2000 bothered to vote. Which means the biggest majority is the non voters, as is echoed right across the country, and that apathy is the main reason the same people and political parties keep getting elected and having control of our lives.
That tells that people have lost faith in the Political Parties, and that they want a different option to vote for. If you are one of these people why not give me a chance, and vote for me?
