Dr Gareth Thomas: Candidate for Pen-Y-bont, Bro, Morgannwg
Candidate Bio & Mission
Background & Service
Dr Gareth Thomas is representing the Pen-Y-bont, Bro, Morgannwg Constituency in the upcoming Senedd election to be held on the 7th of May.
Full statement
He lives in Aberdare and is deeply rooted in the Welsh heritage of coal miners and steelworkers. Born into a dedicated military family, Gareth followed in his parents' footsteps by joining the British Army shortly after leaving school.
Following a spinal cord injury that resulted in a medical discharge and a lifelong transition to a wheelchair, Gareth refused to let his circumstances define his contribution to society.
Professional Achievements
An entrepreneur, professional photographer, Gareth also holds:
Three degrees in Psychology, including a Doctorate.
Multiple therapy diplomas.
20 years of dedicated mental health advocacy.
He founded a non-profit to support those in crisis and works alongside a charity supporting disabled individuals and veterans. In addition, Gareth runs a private mental health practice providing vital support to those in need.
Political Mission
Having lost faith in the political establishment following the 2010 coalition and the subsequent handling of the EU withdrawal, Gareth believes that Reform UK is the only party capable of delivering the "Real Change" Britain desperately needs.
Gareth’s Priorities for the Community
NHS & Mental Health: Drastically reduce waiting lists and make mental health a priority for both the young and the old.
Disabled People: Support people who are disabled and ensure they are not ostracised or left to become a "poor minority." Also, improve access and accessibility in public areas to enable integration into society.
Cost of Living: Fight to make energy bills affordable and provide real help for families living below the poverty line.
Stronger Communities: Push for more police on our streets and a serious plan to correct homelessness.
Military & Veterans: Make our military strong again and ensure every veteran receives specialised help and the respect they deserve.
Real Opposition: Ensure that the Labour Government is held to account by a party that actually listens to the people.
