Statement to voters

Kim Marshall is the SNP’s candidate for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale at the General Election.

Full statement

Growing up working in the family grocery shop, Kim understands the demands of running a small business and the hard work that is involved, especially following both covid and Brexit. She was the first woman in her family to go to university to read law and politics at the University of Nottingham. She took an LLM in European Law at the University of Bristol, moving to De Montfort University to take her professional courses to be a solicitor. Kim has spent most of her career as a university law lecturer in both England and Scotland. Raised in a single parent household where money was tight, she is passionate about the change that education can make to lives and will fight to ensure that HE remains tuition free in Scotland so that access is based on ability rather than ability to pay. She is currently a PhD student at the University of Glasgow, putting her experience as a disability rights activist to good use researching the effectiveness of UK disability discrimination law. Kim is an ardent supporter of WASPI and will do everything she can to see justice done for them. She is also determined to fight Tory austerity, the cost of living crisis, stand up for our NHS and work for Net Zero for our children’s and grandchildren’s sake. She understands the concerns of a mainly rural constituency. Kim is familiar with Westminster and Whitehall having worked as a policy officer and programme manager at the Ministry of Justice for several years in between Higher Education roles. She is resident in Dumfriesshire.
