Statement to voters

As your candidate for Havant, I can offer almost twenty years of combined experience in the energy and construction industries, I am currently in my final year of a Building Surveying degree.

Full statement

Originally from Scotland, with an Italian father and a Scottish mother, I was raised Catholic and attended religious schools but I respect all denominations and their right to practice what they believe in peace and security. I first came to Hayling Island as a fourteen-year-old and attended The Hayling School. I soon found myself homeless with no support. By the age of seventeen, I had worked myself out of homelessness, living in Emsworth and Purbrook and working mostly in the catering and hospitality industry and I put myself through college. At twenty-five, I was living in Havant and became a mother but unfortunately found myself in a domestically violent relationship with no support from the authorities. Despite this, I completed a second college course in construction whilst working full-time in the energy industry. By age thirty, I was a single mother working full-time, struggling like so many to afford childcare and relying on food banks. I had begun university, despite being on the brink of homelessness and being repeatedly rejected by letting agents because I was only working part-time with DSA top-ups, a single mother, and a student. • I became depressed and hopeless, finding there was no mental health support available which is why I am proud to represent a Party that takes mental health seriously. • I also saw the effects of anti-social behaviour, including harassment and threats, which is why I am proud to represent a Party that challenges the growing criminality in our society and will reform the police so that it is responsive to working class needs. • I have lived in accommodation that was subsiding, flooding, full of mould, and unhealthy with no support from any authorities which is why I am the candidate for a Party that is committed to investment in new housing stock and making local government more accountable.

What I Will Do I have endured hardships and struggles but overcame them through sheer determination. I want to give some of that energy back to people living in hardship today. You may have often felt isolated and helpless against a system designed to work against you. It is a system that offers no recourse or support and is seemingly intentionally obstructive. I am here to help you change that system. I have fought for others throughout my life on housing issues, debt, human rights, student fees, asylum cases, and career advice. I have volunteered for local homeless charities and fought on local issues related to pollution and sewage in our seas and on national issues related to the illegal sale of British-made weapons to genocidal regimes and our complicity in war. I understand how frustrated and unsupported people feel. Our governments have let us down for generations. I am determined. I will not allow future generations to suffer in the same way This ends with me and the Workers Party. We will stand up and be the voice of the people—to end imperialism, poverty, and war.

What I Will Be Focusing On

Health • Improved access to mental health treatment and reduction of waiting times, especially for drug rehabilitation and child and adolescent mental health. • Improved access to respite and support for parents with disabled children, including severe autism. • Schemes to support children with learning disabilities from childhood into adulthood so they can integrate and become independent and employed in society. • An education program created in partnership with Hampshire Health to educate residents on non-processed nutritious cheap food (pulses, vegetables, protein sources, fish. etc), on cooking lessons for parents either online or in free classes in schools to reduce obesity, heart disease, diabetes and malnutrition. • Vouchers such as the Healthy Start scheme to be expanded and include more low-income families. • Cheaper access to gyms, vouchers for bicycles, and the creation of community-led group exercises. • Easier access to and resources for rehabilitation centres, support and home care for disabled people recovering from accidents, cancer, injury and strokes.

Environment • Set targets for local private wastewater and freshwater undertakers to replace the leaking pipe network to reduce water wastage. I have set up a consultation with Portsmouth and Southern Water in the coming week to work on plans for the area. • Demand that old, combined sewerage systems are separated and encourage funding schemes for residents to retrofit grey water recycling systems to their homes, where possible with vouchers to purchase water butts. • We have a particular issue locally with dog fouling and littering. I will pressure the council to employ more street cleaners and community officers to issue littering and dog fouling fines. • Sewage discharge pipes into open bodies of water, such as sea and rivers, must be retrofitted with nets to reduce plastic pollution and a maintenance plan created for emptying and recycling plastic waste. • More recycling facilities for constituents at home and locally.

Roads & Transport • An increased budget from the central government to resurface all roads within the constituency, with an annual maintenance schedule • Better footpaths and more unobstructed cycle paths, clearly marked, safe and linking different communities. • The South of England has some of the most expensive public transport. It is unreliable and inefficient. I will meet with local bus operators to discuss improvements, especially for those unable to use cars. I am already communicating with Network Rail to discuss future plans to improve local services. Housing • Rental income restrictions on landlords who have poorly maintained properties. • More funding for building surveyors to independently inspect properties and help write reports to the housing Ombudsman to speed up the process and assist tenants in seeking repairs and compensation. • Grants to help people upgrade their privately own homes to bring the energy efficiency standards up to reduce energy bills. Crime • Stalking, harassment, domestic violence, antisocial behaviour, acts of violence and robberies, sexual assault, and paedophilia must be proactively dealt with by police who are currently not pursuing arrests, investigations or criminal charges for these serious matters. Offenders must be tagged to track their movements, help with future prosecutions, and protect constituents from dangerous offenders. • Encourage more youth centres and clubs with sports and social events and discos to tackle youth crime. The police successfully ran these during the 1990s and early 2000s. • More support for schools from the police in dealing with violent and dangerous children.

Community • Community-led free activities integrating the elderly and people from different ethnic minorities, single mothers who may have no family support and disabled people into the community. This will tackle loneliness, which reduces life expectancy and increases the chance of depression. • An annual Mela family festival celebrating different cultures in our local parks. Arts, dance, crafts, and music will be accessible to all. • Open new libraries, having children read stories to the elderly, and doing crafts together has been trialled in other countries and found to be successful. It helps the child's educational development, keeps the elderly stimulated, and provides respite for parents. • Encourage beachcombing and litter picking community events, Empty, unused brownfields and green land spaces being used as community gardens, where everyone can come and learn to garden and share knowledge and community-led schemes of shops and the public donating paint for fences and benches. • Competitions for the best garden flower show, best scarecrow competitions, etc., will improve the appearance of the community, social integration, and a sense of community spirit and pride in our constituency.

Local Business We will encourage entrepreneurs with grants, training, and education to encourage more business linked to appreciable social outcomes

If you are sick and tired of this broken system and want change, vote for the only true socialist candidate in this election.
