Statement to voters

Wiltshire is home.

Full statement

I grew up and went to school in Wroughton, which forms part of the new East Wiltshire constituency - a new seat, and a chance for us to be part of a new start after 14 years of Conservative rule.

I wanted to stand in the General Election because I am tired and angry: tired of the Conservatives treating power like it's a game, and angry at the stagnant economy and broken public services they have created. Everybody feels worse off, and nothing in our country seems to work. It's no wonder that people feel it's time for a change.

But I also wanted to stand because I am hopeful that better days can lie ahead for our country. If you are tired of the rolling chaos of this Government, there is an alternative. Today's changed Labour Party is determined to grow and green our economy, is ready to reform our public services, will stand by Britain's rural communities, and is strong on defence.
