Statement to voters

I am your home-grown Green Party candidate for South Cambridgeshire and I am serious about wanting to be your MP – I know I would do the job really well; all I need is for you to put your faith in me and vote! I joined the Green Party because all the other political parties fail to adequately address the huge environmental and social challenges that we all face.

Full statement

I’m running for office because I want to try and help bring about real change in the way our country is run.

I’ve lived and worked in Cambridgeshire for over 30 years, moved ‘out to the villages’ when our son was little, and have seen him right through the local primary and secondary schools in this constituency. Always a very active member of our village community: from the school PTA committee to being treasurer of the local tennis club, I’m well known for my attention to detail and for getting things done.

Previously an NHS manager for ten years, working in both acute care and then end of life care, I value our public sector and experienced first-hand the chaos and disruption following poor government decisions. I also worked for ten years as the one-woman support officer for local charity the Magog Trust, who own and manage Magog Down: those wonderful wildflower meadows and unrivalled views of the area will be familiar and very precious to many of my fellow constituents.

I strongly believe that the obsessive focus on ‘Growth’ at all costs must be challenged if we are to protect our environment and our waterways, and enhance our communities. The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) states that its main purpose is ‘to support Growth': far from providing the improved public transport that we all crave, their busway plans threaten to concrete over our countryside and destroy our natural environment. We could have simply had much more frequent bus services on the existing roads, but the crazy way the GCP funding is provided means they can’t do that. Which is why you need a strong advocate in Parliament, who will lobby for the funding model to change so that money can be spent on maintaining existing infrastructure, and running public services generally.

Vote for me, and if elected I will work tirelessly with the other new Green MPs to hold the government to account on climate targets, while always being a loyal advocate for the people of South Cambridgeshire.

And finally: Ignore those bar charts from 2019! Not a single one of the same candidates is standing this time; and that was entirely about Brexit (remember that?!) with the Green Party and Reform both having stood aside. For the 2024 General Election you have an entirely new field of six candidates to choose from. If you believe in the Green Party’s philosophy and want Real Hope, Real Change, then vote with your heart on 4th July.
