Statement to voters
From the paths and waterways of Regent’s Canal in the West to the birches of Wick Woodland in the East – and every school, home, temple, market, park, shop, bar, and restaurant in between – Hackney is an unapologetically raw and wonderful place to call home.
Full statement
I can’t quite articulate the joy and privilege of standing to represent my home constituency of Hackney South and Shoreditch – a rich and diverse multicultural community that I love dearly. We deserve a change in this country and community – not simply a change in leadership Party and colour – but in societal values, hopes, and opportunities.
The Green Party and I can offer that to you.
We must not allow those in power to ignore the suffering of so many across our borough, city, and around the world. We cannot accept a government that prioritises power and privilege over people. With its dismissal of institutional racism, war crimes, biting poverty, and ecocide, our government truly has a broken moral compass.
I am here for two reasons: to listen and speak out for the people of Hackney South and Shoreditch and to fight for a new system of hope, equality, peace, and prosperity, holding the next government firmly to account.
As a neurodivergent single mother – albeit with the unearned privilege that comes with being racialised ‘white’ – I have experienced elements of the shocking gender inequality in our society. I won’t stand by and watch as our children step into a world of crisis and inequality. Now is the time for radical change.
As MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch, I will fight for: • Safer, dryer, and warmer social homes. Residents in neglected estates must no longer be ignored. Nobody should ever have to live in a state of damp, mould, or disrepair. • Dignity for NHS staff and patients in our beloved Homerton Hospital and all other community health centres. Privatisation must end! • Greater protections from abusive practices and unacceptable rent hikes for those living in private rental homes. Nobody should live in fear of eviction or be forced to succumb to harmful annual rent increases. • Protections of our green spaces and an end to the shocking abuses of our natural waterways, notably our precious River Lea, by Thames Water. • An immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the unconditional release of hostages, and the cessation of arms sales to ALL countries breaching international human rights laws.
A vote for me is a vote for a truly local MP who will listen and learn from you and our community. It is a vote for integrity, courage, and hope.
Thank you.
