Matt Valentine's policies
Statement to voters
Matt grew up in the Medway towns, going to school in Chatham.
Full statement
For thirty years he worked independently in financial services, gaining an in-depth understanding of economics and markets. In 2021 he returned to full time education, receiving a degree this year in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Reading.
Matt is dedicated to restoring honesty and integrity in British politics. He rejects the influence of special interests and lobbyists, and will focus solely on representing the people's voice and serving the local community's interests, with transparency and accountability. MPs have lost their way, with their side hustles and cosy relationship with questionable donors. They have forgotten who it is they are elected to serve. Matt will campaign for an end to second jobs for MPs and the removal of foreign lobbyists from the Westminster system. If elected he will donate half his parliamentary earnings to good causes in the constituency.
‘’There is no escaping that Tory austerity has hit all of Medway hard. With government revenue support grants cut from £85 million in 2010 to just £7 million today, many services have suffered. Like most councils across the country, Medway is forced to make hard decisions, often with the consequence of making life just a bit worse for tens of thousands of residents. Britain’s NATO budget is £60 billion per year. There always seems to be money for war, yet not for the everyday things to improve people’s lives. I want stand for the people of Chatham, Medway and Britain at large, to scrutinise Starmer and ensure he delivers what is right for everyone.’’
