Full statement

My name is Iqbal MOHAMED. I'm a proud Dewsbury born and raised local resident who attended Westborough High School, Huddersfield New College and Durham University.

I have 30+ years of professional experience in manufacturing and engineering, regulatory compliance, quality, business and technology management consultancy. I have worked across the UK, Europe and beyond, in different industries, including in the NHS.

I have been involved in charity and community work in the UK and abroad since the late 90's and I've been a political activist for the past several years fighting for equality, fairness, social justice, public services, exposing government failures and corruption and holding them accountable.

I believe that politics has been hijacked by the corrupt, selfish, pro-war, racist elite and is being used against us. Both main parties have given their full support to the genocide in Palestine and continue to sell arms that are used to kill innocent civilians in breach of international law.

I was selected to stand as your independent candidate my principled values, strong commitment to our community, and my professional experience.

As an independent candidate, I'll listen to local people and not political party agendas, and I will be able to work for our community and country without fear, favour, corruption, or self-interest.

Our community has been neglected and ignored by the Tories and Labour for decades and they cannot be trusted again.

My initial focus will include fighting for a ceasefire and two-state peace agreement in Gaza, tackling the cost-of-living crisis, fighting to save the NHS and Dewsbury Hospital, funding for all essential services, town regeneration, safer streets and environmental and consumer safety and protection.

I believe politics done correctly is one of the highest forms of public service, and a force for good.

As your MP I will work tirelessly with honesty, integrity, transparency and accountability in Parliament and fight for policies that prioritise the needs and well-being of every resident, regardless of their background and circumstances.

If elected I will aim to be the most accessible, approachable and hardest working MP in Parliament and put working people and the youth first in Dewsbury and Batley.

A better politics for a better future.
