Statement to voters

I’m standing as an Independent in the General Election as I believe the people of this constituency can be better represented in Parliament.

Full statement

From a fifth generation of Essex farmers, my roots in Ashdon go back to 1910. I benefitted from an education in Ashdon, Newport and Durham University, and learnt to play the organ in St Mary’s Church. After 25 years in the film music industry and following a couple of instances where the NHS has been instrumental in – literally – getting me back on my feet, it’s time to give something back.

Traditional farming and agricultural businesses are the foundation for the evolution of our rural economy. We’ve a hugely dynamic emerging food, drink and hospitality sector alongside firms embracing new technologies; in my current work, my eye is keenly on AI and the challenges of social media. We have fantastic local volunteer and sports networks and community arts provision through Saffron Hall, Thaxted Festival and Saffron Screen bringing creativity and opportunity to the next generation.

But together, we can do more - and better. All this can flourish only if we get things right in our environment: in improving infrastructure, connectivity and repairing potholes; growing an ecology to support business and removing unnecessary barriers to trade; in promoting integrity, inclusivity, equality and opportunity; in the provision of first-class education, health and social care; in managing the unique character of a deeply rural constituency with major motorway and an international airport at its heart; in sensitive planning and imaginative home-building making North West Essex such a great place to live, work and raise a family.

I’m not a career politician - I don’t have a greasy pole to climb - but I will be a strong, influential and independent voice for you in Parliament. For me, people will always come before politics, but politics is how we will get things done.

Trust me to take your voice to government.
