Working people face a deep crisis with stagnant wages, declining living standards, spiralling poverty and crumbling public services. Meanwhile, profits rise and the rich get richer. Our democratic rights and civil liberties are under attack. Globally, war is spreading. Israel’s genocide against Palestinians and the war in Ukraine continue. Britain’s ruling class profits from these conflicts and is gearing up for a new Cold War against China. The Communists have an alternative to the consensus politics of Sunak and Starmer. We have an alternative to capitalism. We can build a new society free from poverty, exploitation, and war—a socialist society. Originally from Marske-by-Sea, I have lived on Tyneside for over 20 years. Working since age 16, I was the first in my family to graduate from university and have been a union activist since joining my first trade union in 1993. Currently a member of Unite, I have held various regional/national roles in unions during my careers and I am a passionate defender of disability rights in education and the workplace.
