We’re fifteen years into a housing crisis: unaffordable house prices, no social homes available, and an insane private rental sector full of poor quality and unsafe homes, a lack of security and stability for renters, and rents that are spiralling out of control.

A good home is the fundamental for a happy and healthy life. Young people cannot settle properly, they live with fear and insecurity of not being certain of a long term place to live and are postponing marriage because of this crisis. Mental health issues arises as a result, costing the state billions.

I will urge politicians to build 1.5 million homes in next 10 years; rent controls, an end to no-fault evictions, longer tenancies, tough action on unsafe disrepair.
