Following the resignation of your North Devon District councillor, I am writing to introduce myself because I am considering standing as a truly Independent candidate in the forthcoming ballot.

Having been resident in the Barnstaple area for more than 37 years, I am well aware of the many problems resulting from infrastructure, services and social provision not keeping pace with population growth in our area, as well as the devastating effects of continual cutbacks in funding. Whilst understanding the need for local development, I believe that any changes must not only support and enhance the lives and manner of living within our community, but also be undertaken with both fairness and sensitivity, and of course in sympathy with our wonderful natural environment.

Now enjoying semi-retirement, I have the necessary time to devote to the role, and believe that I can bring intelligence, education, experience, humanity and common sense to work on behalf of the community, whilst remaining unbiased and staunchly independent. I am an excellent communicator, and would strive to engage, support and advocate on behalf of both individuals and the wider community within the context of North Devon Council and be accountable. Having worked for many years in senior management in the public sector, I am quite used to navigating bureaucracy and cutting through unnecessary red tape with a view to getting the job done.
