Statement to voters
I live on Standfield, in the heart of Abbots Langley with my wife and children – it’s our home.
Full statement
So protecting our village isn’t a political slogan for me – it’s personal.
Although I voted Conservative, I’d never been a party member until February. I’m a technical engineer, not a politician – I just want the best for our village and our children.
But our Green Belt is at risk like never before. Distracted by the infighting that caused Sara Bedford to resign, Lib Dems missed the deadline to pass a Local Plan to avoid Labour trebling housebuilding targets.
Only Conservatives were focused on solving the problem. While Lib Dems surrendered to losing our Green Belt, Conservatives spent hundreds of hours forensically identifying solutions from councils around England.
And my neighbours and I worry that others are using this election as a political stepping stone: to score points, not solve problems. I live locally, but that's not the case of the only candidates who put their address on the ballot paper - you can see for yourself that the Lib Dem candidate lives in Nash Mills, Hemel Hempstead and Reform in Chorleywood.
Electing Conservative Vicky Edwards last year has been a breath of fresh air. As a local dad and engineer, I just want to solve problems in place of Lib Dem infighting, and save our Green Belt.
