Statement to voters
"My connection with the Hatton Park Ward, where I live, reaches back thirty-eight years.
Full statement
I came to Wellingborough for a job at Weavers School in 1987. After teaching in Hong Kong for 25 years, I returned in 2021. Much remained the same and some things had changed – we saw the construction of Niort Way before heading abroad and returned to watch the development of Glenvale Park.
Twenty five years in a very densely populated city allowed me to appreciate the space and greenery that Northamptonshire has to offer. The litter, empty shops and run down corners were a bit of an eye opener. It seemed to me that all aspects of our environment, urban and rural, are vital and interlinked. We have to plan for the future to offer a sustainable quality of life for future generations. On a global and local level.
The only party that prioritises the environment is The Green Party. Planning has to be joined up and consider all possible benefits and problems – including the impact on our land, air, water and wildlife. We need to have more decision making and funding at a local level. Funding problems must be dealt with. Starting with a root and branch reform of the council tax system.
I am standing for The Green Party to offer a chance for electors to vote for real change"
